The Senior
Art Director Role

Unleaded is looking for an experienced, driven Senior Art Director. Our Senior Art Directors work with teams of strategists, marketers, designers and copywriters to provide the fundamental art direction needed to create and support any type of creative project imaginable from new brand development to print, video and multimedia campaigns. You’ll support other members of the creative team to help them visually translate core ideas into concepts that enable clients to accomplish their goals through strategic marketing that makes an impact. 

REGARDING THE JOB:

We need somebody with a proven understanding of the creative development process who can hit the ground running on multiple projects and accounts. On a day-to-day basis, you will, among other things: 

  • Lead designers and others to enable them to perform strategic, conceptually sound work of all kinds.

  • Contribute to concept development, design and execution of marketing programs. 

  • Think proactively on the client’s behalf on ways to solve marketing problems creatively:  translate research data into creative solutions for clients and think in terms of integrated, multi-layered campaigns.

  • Help clients establish and maintain brand standards.

  • Help designers concept the layout of specific creative pieces; thinking through the concept from objective to key audiences and potential problem areas. 

  • Work in a collaborative team environment that includes not just other creatives, but also the mission-critical cross-disciplinary pros it takes to create effective work, campaigns and brands. 

  • Consult with clients and presenting work on occasion 

  • Support other creative leaders in reviewing development of creative products to ensure strong execution of a concept that’s up to both Unleaded’s standards and the client’s specifications. 

  • Plan, concept and attend photo and video shoots to ensure that the photography supports the client, concept, brand and creative team as needed.

REGARDING YOUR CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, advertising, communication or other visual arts discipline; MFA brings bonus points  

  • Bonus points for extra-curricular creative work and skills like fine arts, illustration, animation, teaching, writing, etc; professional creatives are creative all day, every day and we love to see the stuff you do for fun as well.

  • We want people who take their work very seriously and have an eye for detail—but who can still have fun along the way. People who can act as a mentor to departmental employees by providing developmental opportunities, answering questions, providing direction, etc. People who won’t just automatically make the logo bigger upon request, but rather think about a client’s true best interest and how we can make the work truly great. 

YOUR EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years  in an Art Director role

  • 5+ years experience designing in an agency setting

  • References that can speak to your teamwork with creative directors, writers, graphic designers and production teams

  • Experience with concept development and brainstorming (must be able to talk through your thought process with examples)

YOUR SKILLS:

  • Able to help other creative leaders steward creative from concept to design and production; contributing to brainstorm sessions and mentoring other designers to contribute as well.

  • Have the ability to defend concepts with your knowledge of design fundamentals, illustration principals, typography and photography (theory and practice).

  • Solid communication skills; able to persuade and articulate the value of your ideas and how they support client objectives/strategy.

  • Ability to tell a story, visually and verbally.

  • Thorough knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
